PDF FILES

The most recent version of Acrobat Reader is needed to view PDF files. A free download of the Reader is available at:

http://get.adobe.com/reader/

STREAMING AUDIO

Most of the streaming audio created by the library requires Real Player.  Windows Media Player or QuickTime WILL NOT work.

A free download of the latest version of Real Player is available at: http://www.real.com/freeplayer/?rppr=rnwk

Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) should also be enabled. To enable RTSP:

  1. Select Tools on the RealPlayer menu bar,
  2. Select Preferences
  3. A pop-up window will appear.  Select  the Content category, then and select Media Types
  4. Check the Other Media box, then select the Advanced button.
  5. Another pop-up window will appear. Scroll down to the Other Media  section, then check the box alongside Real-Time Streaming Protocol
  6. Select OK to save changes.

Beginning Fall 2009, the Library will create streaming audio that uses the same technology as streaming video. A separate player will no longer be needed. Please make sure your computer has the following settings:

Before Starting

  1. Pop-up blockers must be disabled or allowed for the vf1.library.arizona.edu or 150.135.239.71 websites
  2. Have the latest version of Java installed and enabled. A free download of Java is available at: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Accessing The Streaming Audio

  1. Make sure you are only clicking the video link ONCE, and then let the viewer load (this will take between 5-15 seconds).  Clicking multiple times may freeze the system.
  2. If a security certificate pop-up opens, please respond YES by selecting 'Accept' or 'Run'. The viewer will NOT play otherwise.

Additional Help

  1. Try using Mozilla's Firefox INSTEAD of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer (available free at: http://www.mozilla.com ).
  2. The following ports must be open on any software or hardware firewalls between the your computer and our server:  80, 4902 (UDP), 4903 (TCP), 4904 (TCP), 4905 (TCP), 4906 (TCP), and 4907 (TCP). Please contact your departmental IT support staff or UITS for assistance if using a campus computer. UITS Help Desk: 621-4357.
  3. RESTART the computer and try one more time.

STREAMING VIDEO

Before Starting

  1. Please make sure you are NOT using a wireless network. Access is  NOT reliable through a wireless connection.
  2. A fast internet connection is needed when viewing a film OFF-CAMPUS. *** 3.0mb/sec or faster is recommended. *** Check the speed of your internet connection at: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
  3. Turn off as many other programs as possible.
